Storage Tips

Budget offers storage units in daily, weekly and monthly rental intervals, and units are available with or without climate control. No deposit is required, and there are never any “hidden” set up fees at Budget. Select Budget locations also offer affordable office space, featuring paid utilities, a conference room for meetings and a kitchen. At Budget, we don’t try to sell you the largest-sized storage unit – we advise you on selecting the best size for your needs, even if it’s the smallest size.

It’s easy to figure out how much storage space you need using Budget’s free Storage Estimator. Instead of making the mistake of renting too much or too little space, take a few moments to enter your information, and we’ll advise you on the right amount of storage customized for your own needs. Detailed visual representations for the varied sizes and recommendation are available at Storage Guide. Variety of packaging material is available at Budget Self Storage to help you move easily. •    Pack like a professional – wrap dishes and stemware individually, remove legs from tables, stand table tops on their sides, and cover mirrors and glass to avoid scratching.

•    Clothing should be packed in separate boxes from furniture and other stored items.

•    Do not wrap packed items in plastic because it can retain moisture.

•    Select medium, uniform-sized boxes that are easy to handle, sturdy and easy to stack.  Label each box on the side and on the top for easy identification.

•    Leave a few inches of air space around the inside perimeter of the storage unit to promote air flow.  Place wooden strips or pallets on the floor to protect against moisture.

•    Stack heavy non-breakable items on the bottom, lighter and fragile items on the top.

•    Place items you may need more frequently near the front of the unit.

•    Use fabric covers to protect upholstery from dust.

•    Wipe tools with a lightly oiled cloth to inhibit rust.

•    Do not store food, perishables or plants, flammable items, explosives, toxic or corrosive material.   Drain fuel from lawnmowers and gasoline engines.

•    Don’t forget to secure your unit with a good lock and have insurance coverage on your items while they are in storage.
